The road to getting a PhD is a very interesting yet an arduous journey. This bumpy journey might become even more challenging if the students do not want to treat several ‘diseases’ that may affect the journey horrendously. What might the ‘diseases’ be?
.
TOO SHY TO ASK
.
Supervisors play a crucial role in guiding PhD students. However, the students themselves are not seizing this opportunity to ask questions. As the saying goes, “better to ask the way than go astray”. This saying is very fitting for PhD students. Each research would of course have its own questions and problems that are in need of answers for the research to succeed. Therefore, by diligently asking and with the guidance from supervisors, students will be able to stay on the right track throughout their studies.
.
STUDENTS AND PROCRASTINATION
.
‘Procrastination is the thief of time’. Borrowing the expression from 17th century poet Edward Young, many of us think that procrastination is a common issue in our life. Little did everyone know, this ‘disease’ may even become cancerous especially towards PhD students who are chasing after the deadlines of their respective research. Procrastination will not only hinder one’s PhD’s progress, but it may also reduce the quality of the writing or the overall research itself. Hence, PhD students who wish to graduate successfully need to have this ‘disease’ treated.
.
NO PROPER PLANNING
.
Research would definitely take a long time to be completed. To avoid taking unnecessarily longer period to finish the research, proper planning may aid to shorten it. Proper planning may also help students in checking and comparing each conducted activity. In result, not only will the planning help in avoiding repeated mistakes, but it may also organise the project effectively.

“There is NO other medicine capable of treating these diseases but ourselves.”
