On September 25th, Proofreaders United had organized our first virtual boot camp ever which focused on teaching participants the wonderful art of thesis editing entitled the Thesis Editing Boot Camp: Convocation, Here I Come!
.
.
Almost 200 people were in attendance including the management team, editors, and participants. More than 80% of the participants were postgraduates from the fields of social science, science, and engineering. During the boot camp, the speakers shared insightful and beneficial key points, tips, and experience on thesis editing.
.
.
One of the highlights of the boot camp was the officiation of MZ Services & Consultancy Sdn. Bhd, the home to Proofreaders United. A small contest was conducted, and three winners were chosen with each of them receiving RM100 respectively. Unique in this event, all participants were privileged to officiate the conversion of Szakif Enterprise to MZ Services & Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. The official logo for MZ Services & Consultancy Sdn. Bhd was also revealed and officiated.
.
.
The first half of the boot camp witnessed the opening remarks and speeches by four speakers including Founder of Proofreaders United, Encik Muhammad Zaki Ramli. He delivered a speech on ‘Why Thesis Editing’ as an introduction for participants. Next, Mrs. Wan Izzati who is one of Proofreaders United’s very own Proofreaders/Editors talked about the ‘Dos and Don’ts of Thesis Editing’, further reeling in participants’ attention and grew their curiosity.
.
.
Then, after a short break, Mrs. Khairul Nazlin and Mrs. Nurliyana, who were our highly satisfied clients, shared with the attendees the benefits of thesis editing and their success stories.
.
.
After the lunch break, participants were divided into seven different breakout rooms— Laws & Humanity room, Language & Linguistics room, Education & Management room, Medicine & Health room, Science & Technology room, Engineering room, and Tesis Bahasa Melayu room— following their respective field.
.
.
Each room was managed by our dedicated line of professional and experienced Proofreaders and Editors wherein they demonstrated thesis editing on the spot. Any questions were entertained and discussed during the session itself to provide a solid understanding of how to edit and improve one’s thesis language-wise.
.
.
From the boot camp, one key takeaway is that a thesis should always be checked by an expert in the thesis field. With a deeper understanding of the thesis’ content, Proofreaders and Editors would be able to provide a great editing result, with smooth-flowing language and high readability.
.
.
Not only that, technical terms and jargon would not be overlooked and hence, strengthen the thesis content. On a happy note, we recorded a lot of positive feedbacks with almost all the participants saying that they want a longer session next!
.
.
Thanks to that, Proofreaders United is planning to organize another boot camp in December!
